Women’s Affairs Center Holds Training Course on “How to Establish Your Own Business”

Women’s Affairs Center in Gaza (WAC) concluded training course entitled “How to Establish Your Own Business” which aims at strengthening and empowering women and girls survivors of gender-based violence and integrating them into the labor market. The training involved (26) marginalized women and university graduates who had received legal and psychological counseling from WAC’s psychological and legal support unit, and was held over 8 days with a total of 40 hours. The training comes within the framework of “Gender-Based Violence Response to the Most Vulnerable Communities Affected by the Humanitarian Situation” project funded by United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

The course tackled several topics, the most important of which was the scientific identification of the small project, knowledge of strengths and weaknesses of a project, marketing and promotion skills, financial and technical study of small projects, and the structure of projects.

Reem Al Nairb, Coordinator of Development and Small Business Unit at WAC, indicated that the training focused on equipping women with small business management skills as well as training them on how to draft an action plan for the project that includes a financial and marketing plan for each project. She also pointed that WAC will choose the best (10) pilot projects to finance them.

Maha Al Nabih, a housewife owning a small project in food industry, said,” This training helped me in terms of how to choose low-cost raw materials, how to market and promote my products, and how to deal with customers.”

Dalia Hellis, a graduate with three majors (Geography, Teaching Diploma, Secretarial and Office Management), said, “This training has opened a new door for me. It made me think in a scientific and serious manner about my project. It opened new horizons on the personal level as well through enhancing my self-confidence.”

She stated that this training helped her to draft a financial study of the project, marketing mechanisms, in addition to developing creative ideas for the project.
