Al Mezan Calls for Investigation into a Woman’s Death and Due Consideration of the Gender Elements of Crimes

At 10pm on Saturday, 19 January 2019, F.M., a 23-year-old woman, arrived with critical head wounds to Al-Aqsa Hospital in the Middle Gaza district of the Gaza Strip. Documentation by Al Mezan Center for Human Rights shows that F.M. had been wounded from a live bullet to the head while at her house in the village of Al-Zawayda. She died ten minutes after arriving at the hospital. The police went to the location of the incident and announced the opening of an investigation.

Al Mezan expresses regret at the death of F.M. and condemns the ongoing killing and injury occurring in communities in Gaza through the spread of small arms. Al Mezan reiterates its call on the authorities to install effective gun control measures to ensure that small arms are only used by authorized personnel and in accordance with the law. Al Mezan urges the competent authorities to conduct a prompt, effective, and transparent investigation into the death of F.M., and to investigate the gender aspects of crimes against women and girls.
