The Palestinian Human Rights Organizations Council (PHROC) stands in solidarity with the Women’s Technical Affairs Committee (WATC) in light of a recent campaign against it.
The campaign against WATC resulted in a new political decision taken by countries that lead the Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law Secretariat, to withhold and end funding to WATC. This will undermine the organization’s work on women’s rights and other human rights issues in the occupied Palestinian territory.
The campaign against WATC comes within a broader context of Israel targeting Palestinian civil society organizations that support Palestinian rights, including the right to self-determination, and their struggle in the face of occupation.
Accordingly, PHROC is concerned that Third States, including those that support Palestinian organizations and institutions, are being swayed by biased political narratives. As such, PHROC calls for a review of the decision made against WATC in accordance to examining its work and impact on the ground. PHROC further calls on Palestinian civil society organizations to ensure that funding is in line with the Palestinian Association Law.
